Dear AWC Korea community,
It’s been so wonderful to reconnect with many of you in recent weeks, especially over coffee and at our in-person AWC Korea boards-and-committees meeting.
It’s hard to believe we’ve just turned the calendar from August to September. While it’s still quite warm in Seoul, the occasional glimpse of bright blue skies or the trace of a refreshing breeze hint that fall might finally be on the way.
This month, the Korean community will celebrate Chuseok, the annual mid-autumn harvest festival and one of the most important holidays in Korea. Over three days beginning Sept. 16, Koreans will travel home, prepare and eat special foods and perform ancestral rites. We hope your home is blessed with togetherness and thankfulness during this holiday, via time with family and friends — and maybe some songpyeon.
Within AWC Korea, our 2024-2025 programming year has kicked off, and we are in full swing with planning events for you! In addition to our regular coffee morning and book club meet-ups this month, we’ll also have:
-
a talk on body types & style personalities, billed as “the ultimate guide to avoiding buyer’s remorse,” from our own Ines Abejon.
-
a chance to sample fine wines from around the world at Dragon Hill Lodge.
-
-
a tour and lunch at Heungcheonsa Temple.
(See below for more event details!)
We’re also in our peak season for AWC Korea membership renewals. If your membership was due for renewal in August, please make sure to re-up for the current year! Just fill out the membership form (yes, even for renewals) and send in your payment.
I look forward to seeing all of you at events in the next month. As Chuseok approaches, I am particularly thankful for this community of supportive, kind and energetic members and friends. Thank you for being a part of our group!
With thanks,
Betty Chung
AWC Korea President
