March 2025 Newsletter

Dear AWC members and friends,

Wow, what a month it has been! For the shortest month in the year, this February packed a punch.

I’m happy to report that the air was filled with  ❤️ LOVE for our annual charity gala at the beginning of the month. The event raised about 67 million Korean won for charity. These funds will help to support local philanthropic groups and efforts, including Korea Legacy Committee, Liberty in North Korea, Open Arms Korea, Haesimwon, Planting Love, and programs and initiatives for women's empowerment and advocacy.

Please allow me to say thank you once more to everyone who attended, sponsored, donated and volunteered to make ❤️ LOVE a success! The evening would not have been possible without you.

At the gala, we highlighted a change that sharp-eyed newsletter readers will have already noticed: a new AWC Korea logo! We are thrilled to introduce this new icon, which draws inspiration from our origins as an American club; our work in beautiful and historic Korea; and our focus on being a welcoming community. Thank you to all who worked on this project.

March is Women’s History Month, celebrating "herstory." The month includes International Women's Day, which celebrates women's achievements. To mark the day, AWC Korea has partnered with The Gallery, SIWA and BASS to host an insightful and powerful discussion with Ms. Alison Miriam Davidian, Special Representative for the UN Women Afghanistan Country Office

At our joint International Women's Day 2025 event on March 11, Ms. Davidian will share her expert analysis on the current situation and experiences of Afghan women and girls and the critical work being done to assist and empower them amidst extraordinary challenges. Please see details in our Facebook Group. (Waitlist started.)

We also have a limited number of seats available for a 2025 International Women’s Day event on March 7, with the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Korea — Towards More Resilient and Secure Democracies: Women in Security and Defence. See details below and RSVP ASAP! (Facebook event)

Later in the month, we’ll search for luck with a St. Patrick's Day happy hour, discuss "James" by Percival Everett, take a shopping mall tour and sink our worldly concerns into knitting some worry dolls. I hope to see you at some of our events.

In community,
