December 2023 Newsletter

Happy December, everyone!

As we begin the holiday season, I would like to start by wishing you and your families a blessed holiday season filled with joy, good health and gratitude. 

AWC is busy gearing up for our annual gala. The New Year’s Gala, a black tie event for charity, will be held at 6:30 p.m. January 13, 2024, at the Grand Hyatt Seoul. Purchase early bird tickets by December 4. You can read more about the gala on our website and purchase tickets through the Google Form.

The evening will feature lots of raffle prizes as well as live and silent auction items. Join us for a chance to win, among other items:

• Two rounds of golf for four people at Nine Bridges in Jeju
• A one-night stay for two people on Nami Island, breakfast included 
• A stay at Grand Hyatt for two people, breakfast included 
• Artwork from Gallery 526

Proceeds from the evening will support four local charities. These organizations serve different parts of the community in our host home:

• Korea Legacy Committee (코리아레거시커미티) — Works with the elderly in need.

• Open Arms Korea — Works with orphans.

• Haesimwon (혜심원) — Serves orphans in need.

• Planting Love (사랑심기) — Advocates for and serves children with disabilities.

Support for Beautiful Companion 

In November, AWC helped to support the Beautiful Companion Volunteer Society’s efforts to deliver kimchi to 120 underprivileged households.

Volunteers founded Beautiful Companion in 2015 to give back to the Yangpyeong-gun community. Among other efforts, members gather regularly in Chairwoman Bae Yoon-jin’s yard to prepare hearty lunch boxes for the disabled. Those meals are delivered to 20 families in the district.

Last month, the group made and delivered kimchi to homes via centers for disabled persons. AWC donated ₩1.2 million to Beautiful Companion this year, using proceeds from the AWC Bazaar in August.
